Rochelle Anita Ballenger

Rochelle Anita Ballenger passed away on July 13,2021 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania at 54 years old. She was born in Lancaster Pennsylvania on February 28,1967 to Robert L. McCowin and the late Patricia M. Ballenger and. Known by her many nieces and nephews as “Aunt Shell” and by others as “Shell”. She had no children of her own but assisted in raising children within the family that needed a mother figure, when no one else could carry the load. She will be remembered as the quiet women sitting in a chair and observing others while drinking her beer and cracking a joke to lighten the mood in the room. Her happy go lucky nature surrounded her with lifelong friends; many sitting with us today. Rochelle loved her family and friends. She stayed in touch with lifelong friends from childhood and these lifelong friends are not friends to the Ballenger’s they are family. Our loss isn’t a break in our bond. It will make us stronger. Shell was a kind, loving and extremely forgiving person. No matter how much you upset her shell still accepted you with open arms. This acceptance happened once a week with Shell and Roberta “Berta” disagreements. The best of friends, sisters and Ying to the others Yang. They would fight one night and the next day go through life as the fight never happen. Shell was not perfect, as we all have flaws, we want to remember her life for all the joy she brought to each of us and the love of her family and friends. In addition to her father, Robert L. McCowin, Shell is survived by her siblings: Ernest Brooks, Ophelia Brooks, Tammy Wise (Ballenger), George Ballenger, husband of Barbara (Dixon), Ernest Ballenger husband of Darlene (Love), San Diego, CA, Angelia Ballenger, Roberta Ballenger, Sarah Thomas and Christina McCowin, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Patricia Greenly (Ballenger). Friends and family are invited to a Funeral Service for Rochelle to be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 10 a.m. at The Groff Family Funeral Home, 528 West Orange Street, Lancaster. The family will greet visitors at a viewing from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
