Richard W. George

Richard “Rick” W. George, 64, of Lancaster, PA, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 surrounded by his family in Harrisburg, PA. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Elmer and Dorothy Winn) George. Rick was husband of Wendy Surfus George with whom he celebrated thirty-nine years of marriage. He graduated from Cedar Cliff High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and a Master’s degree from Temple University. He worked thirty-two years as a Program Analyst for the State of Pennsylvania Legislative Budget and Finance Committee, retiring in 2010. Rick was a member of Hamilton Park United Church of Christ. He was active in the church as an Elder and Deacon and also a member of the church choir and served on the Consistory, Long Range Planning and Stewardship committees. He was an active resident of the Hamilton Park Community where he enjoyed living for thirty-one years. More recently, he enjoyed living and participating in the Village Grande Community. He was an eclectic man with many interests that included, history, literature, theater, politics, bowling, running, traveling, planning family vacations and musical interests from Beethoven to Rap. He loved making memories and was a lifelong learner. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Molly, wife of Christian Glaser of Alexandria, VA, son Alan, husband of Julie George of Elizabethtown, brother David, husband of Susan George of Palm Desert, CA, a granddaughter, Charlotte Glaser and one grandchild on the way. He was a loved Brother-in-law and Uncle to his family. Rick will be lovingly remembered as a great listener and story teller to family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rick’s Memorial Service on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton Park UCC, 1210 Maple Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603, with the Reverend Catherine M. Shiley. The family will greet friends at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. A private interment in the church memorial garden will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorials in Rick’s name may be made to the Hamilton Park UCC, 1210 Maple Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603.
