Richard Joseph Salisbury

Richard J. Salisbury, 69, of Lancaster, PA, died peacefully at home early Sunday morning, November 8, 2015. Born in Lakewood, OH, and baptized in the Lakewood Evangelical United Brethren Church. He was the son of his wonderful and late parents, Joseph A. and Cartha Bowman Salisbury of Findlay, Ohio. He battled and fought hard for 15 months in hopes of spending more precious time with those he loved and enjoyed so much; his wife of 29 years, Carolyn (Martin) Salisbury; his two children Stephen Salisbury (and Chrissy) of Drumore, PA, Emily Primavesi (and Franco) of Cambridge, MD; and his two step-children, Hollie Kemp (and Eric) of Lancaster, PA, Ashley Murphy (and Michelle) of Lincoln University, PA. He was blessed with a sister, Sandy Jenkins and her husband Tom of Greenville, SC and a nephew Jon of Seattle, WA. Dick graduated in 1968, as he would say, from “The” Ohio State with a BS degree in Agriculture. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1973. Dick’s career included employment in various sales positions at Ford New Holland and the Jay Group. He retired from New Holland Concrete as Vice President in 2010. Dick loved playing early-morning, or anytime golf with his buddies (you know who you are) at Meadia Heights, gardening at his son’s house, woodworking (if golf allowed) and tennis, boating and fishing with family on Fripp Island, SC. He enjoyed many memorable times spent with his close friends Hank and Shelia Hartman in Jacksonville, FL, and Gary and Cathy Gough in Kiawah, SC. Most of “Gramps” happiest times were spent with his ten “Grandsons”: golf with Ian and Nicholas, basketball with Ash and Eric, football with Christian, soccer with Evan and Sean, gardening with Brad, boating on the Choptank River with Santi, and hugs and kisses with Luca. Having only Grandsons, Dick was thoroughly enjoying the introduction of “the girls” into the family. He was also looking forward to the birth of his first Great Grandson. A Memorial Service, with Pastor Carl McGarvey officiating, and Military Honors will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 13, 2015, at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 528 W. Orange Street (corner of W. Orange & Pine Sts.). Dick’s family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private.
