Mary Ann Virgil

Mary Ann Virgil, 77, of Willow Street passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Lancaster, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late John Fulmer Boyer and Marie Shertz Boyer. She was the wife of Robert Thomas Virgil they were married for 42 years before his passing in May of 2006. Mary Ann graduated from JP McCaskey, Class of ’64, marrying her high school sweetheart. She raised her family as she began a 30-year career in the mortgage business working for financial institutions National Central, Hamilton Bank, Wells Fargo and M&T. Mary Ann concluded her career in the L-S School District working in the before and after school programs for children. Mary Ann had a passion for the Celtic Thunder, an Irish musical group, she especially followed Emmet Cahill. She enjoyed working in the yard with her flowers and plants. Mary Ann also loved animals and her pet cats. She had a large collection of snowman figurines. Most important to her was doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime Lutheran attending Zion Lutheran and then St. John’s Lutheran in Lancaster. Mary Ann is survived by her two daughters: Michelle Lownsbery, wife of Steve of Lancaster and Stacey Banzhof, wife of John of Obetz, OH. She loved her grandchildren: Kristi (Mac) Edwards, Shane Banzhof, Shawn Banzhof (Ariel), Marisa Lownsbery and Caitlin Lownsbery, and her great-grandchildren: Gavin, Emma and Mackenzie Edwards, Madison Banzhof, Colton and Carson Reynolds; her brother-in-law, Gary (Tina) Virgil. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Jane, Betty, Jimmy, Norman, Gladys, Mim, Peg, William, and Robert. Family and friends are invited to Mary Ann’s Memorial Service at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Margaret Kassees officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. An interment will be held after the service at Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster. Memorial contributions may be made to The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.
