Mary Jane Giovinazzo

Mary Jane McIntosh Giovinazzo of Lancaster, PA, passed Friday, June 15, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born October 14, 1935 in Owosso, MI, Mary Jane was the daughter of Germaine and Douglas McIntosh of Ravenna, OH. She graduated from St. Thomas High School in Fort Thomas, KY and received her Bachelor of Education from Kent State University, where she met her beloved husband, Michael Giovinazzo. They married August 3, 1957 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Together, they owned and operated County Market supermarkets in Cumberland, MD from 1984-2002. Mary Jane was an avid learner and briefly taught school before starting a family. She enjoyed cross-stitch, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and beating her family in Scrabble games. She was a voracious reader and regularly traded books with her dear friend, Rae Badertscher, in Ohio. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and kept in touch with many of her sorority sisters through the years. Mary Jane will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael Giovinazzo, daughters, Mary Lynne Pallasch, Lisa (Scott) Morrison, sons, Steven (Denise) Giovinazzo, Andrew Giovinazzo. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Brant (Angelina), Jaynie and Hunter Pallasch, Alex, Brianna and Nathan Giovinazzo, Chloe (Chris) McCullough, Sophia and Isabelle Giovinazzo, Christine, Maria and Patrick Morrison. She was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild, Kylan McCullough, later this month. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, John B. Pallasch, III. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601 with The Reverend Peter I. Hahn as Celebrant. A viewing will be held prior to the service on Saturday at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange St. (corner of W. Orange & Pine Sts.) Lancaster, PA 17603 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Interment will be on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Cemetery, 851 Mill Road, Ravenna, OH with The Reverend William B. Kraynak officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Mary Jane may be made to St. Leo the Great Elementary School, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601.
