Larry William Woods

Larry William Woods passed away on March 28, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 80, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 9, 1944, to the late Paul H. and Dorothea E. (nee Cochran) Woods in Lancaster, PA. Larry graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1962. After graduating from Millersville State Teacher’s College in 1967, Larry began his teaching career at his alma mater, MTHS. Through the years, Larry taught Woodshop, Graphic Arts, and Photography. He was the Yearbook Advisor for 30 years, the Sports Equipment Manager, the coach of the State Championship Rifle Team (1972), and a beloved teacher whose fun-filled classes were enjoyed by many, including his children. In 1966, Larry and Carol Baker were introduced by their parents. They were married on June 17, 1967, and were a wonderful example of unconditional love to their children and grandchildren for 57 years. After 33 years of teaching, Larry “retired.” He continued to be the district's in-house printer and the Middle School yearbook advisor for many years. Larry enjoyed working for a former student at Grebinger Gallery, writing a daily blog, driving his Corvette, mastering stained glass art, playing pool, and always having a camera in his hands. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Carol, son, Derek C., and wife Barbara, daughter, Brynn A., and husband, David Mencarini, son Paul Thadeus (Tad), three grandchildren, Courtney Anne, Camille Grace, and Caden Charles. Additionally, he is survived by brother, Stephen, and wife Kathy, niece Kelly, and husband Shawn Martin and their children, Megan, Jack, and Allison, nephew, Matthew and his wife Katie and their children, John and Luke, as well as his beloved cats, The Gray Lady and Snickerdoodle. A Celebration of Life will be held in Gamber Hall at Woodcrest Villa, Lancaster, PA, on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive guests from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Gamber foyer. To honor a few of Larry’s favorite things, we encourage you to wear a Hawaiian shirt, bright colors, or Phillies gear. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in honor of his granddaughter, Courtney.
