Jimmie Dee Wilcox Jones

Jimmie Dee Wilcox Jones, 95, formerly of Clermont Ave., Lancaster, PA, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Masonic Village of Elizabethtown, PA, Born September 15, 1920, in Eastman, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Martha Wilcox Alexander and John D. Wilcox and wife of the late Albert Lee Jones, Sr., who passed away on June 11, 2003. They moved from Coatesville, PA to Lancaster in 1955. After working many years as a clerk at Duke Clothiers, Jimmie retired and worked part time for the School District of Lancaster as an aide and retired again. She formerly worked at Warner/Lambert and Schwalm’s Watch Dial Factories. Mrs. Jones was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Lancaster for more than 50 years. While there, she served as a missionary, choir member, pastor’s aide, usher and volunteer for the church food pantry. She was a member of Church Women United, Urban League and board member of the Southeast Health Center. She worked for many years as Judge of Elections for Lancaster City. She enjoyed participating at the Lancaster Neighborhood Senior Center, where she also volunteered as a class leader. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross. Jimmie enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, social functions, church and her friends and family. Jimmie will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Madeline Jones Ballard and Shirley Jones of Lancaster and Dr. Dontina Jones Jackson of Jenkintown, PA and her three sons, Albert L., (Margery) Jones, Jr. and Sylvester “Casey”, (Ada), Jones of Lancaster and Robert Michael Jones of Baltimore, MD, thirteen grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many cousins. Special cousins include Barbara Gilbert, Maudell Hymes, Arthur Walker and George Wilcox of Florida and Emery Coleman of California. Jimmie was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Franklin D. Jones, her brother Wilbert F. Shields and her 1st cousin Emma Wilcox Watson, who died at the age of 105 in 2013. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of her Life at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 701 N. Lime St., Lancaster, PA 17602 on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Roland P. Forbes, Jr. officiating. Interment will be held at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Sister Jimmie D.
