Jeremy Douglas Madea

Jeremy Douglas Madea, 53, of Lancaster, PA passed peacefully with family at his side on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, following a courageous 6-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of Wendy Kathryn Courtright-Madea and the proud father of their two daughters, Courtney Elizabeth Madea and Katie “Juliette” Lynn Madea. He was born in Parsippany, NJ, to Bonnie Hess and the late Douglas Madea. Jeremy studied Computer Science at Millersville University and attained a co-op at Jet Propulsion Labs in Pasadena, CA. He continued to work as a software engineer for many years and consulted for various companies. However, he was particularly proud of his work as a photographer and dedicated time to his own business specializing in portrait and nature photography (jeremymadea.com). Jeremy was a known Renaissance man and held a number of passions and interests. He enjoyed reading and writing poetry, crocheting, calligraphy, improving his Chess game, studying science, working with electronics, discussing philosophy, and practicing his most recent hobby, watercolor painting. He was an avid problem-solver, always teaching himself something new and working on various projects. Jeremy was also a lifelong lover of animals and volunteered his photography services for the Humane League of Lancaster County website. He had many family pets throughout his life and adored them all. Above all, Jeremy loved life, and his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family and friends. Along with his wife, children, and mother, Jeremy is survived by his grandmother, Nancy Welch; stepdad, Cris Graffa, and stepmom, Barbara Searles; stepmom, Gretchen Madea; brothers, Dustin Graffa, Randy Graffa, Trevor Graffa, and Michael Madea; sisters, Jessica Hess and Kirsten Madea; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his stepfather, Edward “Tedd” Hess, and his aunt, Pamela Reinoso. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jeremy’s Memorial Service at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
