JEANNE ELIZABETH OVERDURF

Jeanne Elizabeth Overdurf, 85, of Lancaster, a loving wife and mother, died unexpectedly at her home on Monday November 26, 2012. From her earliest years, everyone that knew Jeanne knew she had spunk. She that lived that way until the very end. Born in Kingston, PA she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Lyndly Steinert. She was the wife of the late Anthony Lewis Overdurf. After attending Bucknell University, she pursued her nursing training at the Wilkes Barre General Hospital, becoming a registered nurse. She began her nursing career at Divine Providence General Hospital in Williamsport, PA and traded working in hospital to work at General Cigar and Sylvania where she was a pioneer in Industrial Nursing. After giving birth to her son John, she ran the cheerful and energetic household. She loved arts and crafts and could usually be found doing some project for her family and friends. Years later, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother to many rambunctious boys including her son. She then went on to do volunteer work with the American Red Cross and, for many years, was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Jeanne always said, “I love two things: I love to garden and I love my family,” which also included a vast menagerie of dogs, cats, guinea pigs, turtles, and fish. She was known by many to have a green thumb. This special talent made her popular with the neighbors who would give her plants to rescue. To this day her house is alive with plant she’s nursed back to life. She is survived by her loving son, John Overdurf and “future daughter in law” Kirsten Farris of Atlanta, GA as well her close friends Yvonne & Gary Breniser of Mountville. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 528 W. Orange Street (at the corner of Orange and Pine Sts), Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. The family will greet friends at the Groffs from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
