Mr. James R. Potter

James R. "Jim" Potter, 73, of Fern Glen Drive, Drumore, PA, formerly of Cortland, N.Y. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 9, 2016. Born in McGraw, New York, he was the loving husband of Louise Bush Potter and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 8, 2015. He was the son of the late Frank Leon and Irene Maude French Potter. Jim graduated from the "school of hard knocks." He worked all his life in the steel and metal manufacturing industry, retiring from Tempco Company, York, PA. Proudly serving the United States Army, Jim as a machine gunner and sharp shooter serving in Germany. He served four years in active duty and two years in the Reserves. He grew up on a farm and loved working with horses and tractors. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, "John Wayne", cowboy and western movies, camping, and traveling in his motor home. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 34, the Riverside Club, and collected winross trucks, guns, knives, and his "Bud Light." In addition to his wife Louise, he is survived by five daughters, Deborah S., wife of Russell Brown, Lancaster, Sherry L., wife of David W. Smith, Lancaster, Tina M. Kemper, Drumore, Kimberly A., wife of Gil C. Eng, Ashburn, VA, Michelle L., wife of Mark A. Waselko, Drumore; five sisters, Sally, wife of Russell White, Virginia, wife of Charles York, Betty, wife of Henry Henson, Polly, wife of Mike Griffith, Beverly Jane Horner; three brothers, Russell, husband of Connie Potter, Gordon, husband of Renate Potter-Willsey, Ray, husband of Lorraine Potter, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Morris and Cathy Bishop. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jim's Celebration Memorial Service from The Groff's Family Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17603 (corner of W. Orange and Pine Streets) on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends at The Groff's Family Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until time of service. The interment will be private.
