Henry "Bud" Kauffman, Sr.

Henry “Bud” Kauffman, Sr., 83, of 2617 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully at Conestoga View on Monday, May 7, 2018 with his daughter, Debra, and granddaughter, Amanda by his side. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the husband of the late Virginia Hoopes Kauffman who died on August 13, 1997 and the son of the late Daniel and Nettie Petsch Kauffman. Henry proudly served his country with the United States Army and the Reserves from 1955-1962. He worked for Alumax as a machinist for many years, and after retirement, he worked as a dishwasher at Lancashire Terrace. He grew up with 13 siblings and all of his family worked with his father’s business where he learned to strip down metals, gaining insight to the value of scrap metals. As a “kicker” he enjoyed assessing what types of materials were of importance. He also enjoyed watching western shows, traveling, trips to Florida, Delaware, and Maryland, attending country fairs and music festivals while listening to country music, going to flea markets and collecting coins. Most of all, his family meant everything to him, especially his grand and great-grandchildren, as he will be remembered as the sweetest Pappy. He loved going to his family reunions and will be remembered as kind hearted, shy, and loving. He is survived by his five children, Julie Ann, wife of Ray Edye, Elizabethtown, PA, John D., husband of Maureen, Bonita Springs, FL, Jeffrey L., Companion of Ginny, Marietta, PA, Joel H., Lancaster, PA; Debra M. Lewis, Harrisburg, PA; six siblings, Geraldine Hougendobler, Rose Shank, Ida Rose Henry, Blanche “Dolly” Wilson, Charles A. and James Kauffman, all of Lancaster, PA; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brandy, Amanda, Brianne, David, John, Serena and four great grandchildren, Gavin, Adrianna, Niko, and Brian. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Jane Kautz, Virginia “Cookie” Meeker, Barbara Kauffman, two brothers, Daniel Jr., and Richard Kauffman, and one sibling who died at birth. Relatives and friends are invited to attend “Bud’s” Funeral Service at The Groffs Family Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange St. (corner of W. Orange and Pine Sts.), Lancaster, PA 17603 on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dale Parmer officiating. Interment at Riverview Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Groffs on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Military honors will be rendered by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and Vet Salute 21.
