Henry E. Frailey

Henry E. Frailey, 89, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Homestead Village, Lancaster. Born in Lancaster on November 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Henry E. and Frances Gordon Frailey and was married to the late Mary Anne Gohr Frailey, who died in 1992. From an early age, Henry had a natural curiosity and a keen sense of adventure. In 1946 he signed up to be a Seagoing Cowboy with Heifer International helping to deliver horses to Poland. This was only the beginning. He was a 1948 graduate from J.P. McCaskey High School and a 1951 graduate from Franklin & Marshall College. While in college, he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, played varsity lacrosse and earned a degree in sociology. After attending the Naval Cadet Program, Henry served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he took a position as a traveling salesman for American Chain and Cable. In 1959, an opportunity presented itself to Henry that he could not turn down. He joined the growing franchise Midas Automotive, building the Columbia Avenue and Lincoln Highway locations in Lancaster. In 1994, he retired handing the reins over to his son, Scott. However, Henry could frequently be seen sipping his coffee and reading the morning newspaper in the Midas waiting area and chatting with customers. Planes, boats and automobiles, Henry enjoyed them all. He was a member of Lancaster Aero Club, Lancaster Power Squadron, Lions Club, and Conestoga Country Club. While his love of travel took him all over the world, his twin engine plane took him under the Columbia Bridge. Henry Frailey was a kind and gentle man who truly lived life to the fullest. He will be fondly remembered for his extraordinary adventures and fantastic stories. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Healey Frailey, two grandchildren: Tate Michael and Pierce Michael Frailey. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott M. Frailey and three brothers: James, Robert and Edward Frailey. A graveside service will be held at Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster, on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Military honors will be provided by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice
