Gwendolyn P. Glover

Gwendolyn “Gwen” P. Glover, 77, of Lancaster went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Hamilton Arms after a 15-year battle with Dementia. Born and raised in Lancaster, Gwen was the daughter of the late Leon B. Glover, Sr. and Romaine C. (Ransom) Glover-Banks. Gwen was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey, Class of ’65, and attended classes at F&M College. She began a prestigious banking career at Fulton Bank, serving as the first black Teller at their South Duke Street location. She would become the Diversity Affairs Officer at CoreStates Bank, where she served for 17 years, retiring in 1995. Gwen stayed busy in retirement as the “quasi” Church Administrator as early as 1980 and officially became the Church Administrator for Bright Side Baptist Church in 1996. Gwen volunteered in many organizations in the Lancaster community, serving as Treasurer of both the Susquehanna Loan Fund and Urban League Guild. Her work for Girl’s Services for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lancaster, Lancaster Community Choir, and the William Reeves Choral Ensemble was significant. She was one of the longest-tenured and devoted members of Bright Side Baptist Church. Many of the youth referred to her as Mama “G” for her ability to be parental. Gwen is survived by her son, Tyrone D. Green, her daughter-in-law, Alexis Brown, her grandchildren: R’Nija, Fazon, Jensen and Skyy. She is also survived by her sister, Donna “Bonnie” Glover, her nephew, William “Smokey” Glover, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her son, Ronald R. Webb, Jr. and her brothers, Daryl L. and Leon “Buddy” Glover, Jr. Friends and family are invited to Gwen’s Funeral Service at Bright Side Baptist Church, 515 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John A. Knight officiating and Rev. Dr. Louis A. Butcher, Jr. will deliver the Eulogy. A Viewing will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the day of the service. Gwen’s interment will be held at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, per Gwen’s request, please consider a memorial gift in Gwen’s name to the Bright Side Baptist Church Building Fund sent to the address listed above.
