Frank A. Gerhardt

Frank A. Gerhardt, 75, of Lancaster, PA and Stuart, FL, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017. He was the husband of Marjorie Maxson Gerhardt to whom he was married 51 years. He was born in Booneville, MO, the son of Joseph F. and Wyama Kamp Gerhardt. He was a 1960 graduate of Keenesburg, CO High School, and a 1964 graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark J. married to Erin Carr Gerhardt of Strasburg, PA, and Jeffrey P. married to Shea Purdy Gerhardt of Denver, CO, five grandchildren: Ryan, Kylie, Emmett, Finley and Harrison, and a sister, Venita Foos of Alberta, Canada. An entrepreneur, Frank had several rewarding careers. He spent 20 years with Armstrong World Industries, where he held positions in domestic and international marketing. He went on to become a founder and Chairman/CEO of High Investors, Ltd. In 1999, he became an owner/principal in the Village of Laurel Run, a CCRC in Fayetteville, PA. His professional affiliations included National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), Registered Securities Principal, and Venture Investment Forum of Central PA. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, the Hamilton Club (past President), the Lancaster Country Club, Lancaster Country Day School Board of Trustees (Past President), and Rock Ford Foundation. Frank proudly served in the US Marine Corps Reserves. Frank lived life to the fullest, always looking for the next adventure. He was an avid fly fisherman and treasured his summer membership at Blooming Grove Hunting and Fishing Club in the Poconos where he spent time with family and friends. Throughout the years, he had several memorable fly fishing expeditions – in Alaska for King Salmon, in New Zealand for Rainbow Trout, in Florida for Indian River Lagoon game fish, and in Labrador with his sons for brook trout. He was a skier his whole life, and he enjoyed many good times playing golf and tennis with his Court Jester friends. He and Margie loved to travel, often in their Cessna Centurion 210/G - he was a private, instrument rated pilot. Frank’s position as Manager of the Far East for Armstrong took them to Hong Kong and then Tokyo, where their sons were born. While living in the Far East, they travelled extensively throughout Asia and Australia. Their favorite activity in Hong Kong was sailing. In Japan, they would travel to their cabin in the Japanese Alps most weekends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service at First Presbyterian Church, 140 East Orange Street, Lancaster on Saturday, June 24, 2017at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Donald W. Hackett officiating.
