Francis "Frank" McGrath

Francis J. “Frank” McGrath, 93, of Lancaster, PA, passed away at his home at Woodcrest Villa on Thursday, April 30th, 2015. Born in the Bronx, NYC, he was the son of the late William and Mary McGrath and was married to Mollie Dellefemine McGrath for 64 wonderful years until her death in January 31, 2007. Frank enlisted in the Army Air Corps in March 1942, which later became the U.S. Air Force, in which he spent 10 years: 6 years on active duty (4 in World War II and 2 in the Korea Conflict). In WWII, he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal in the China, Burma and India Theater of Operations. He was a member of American Legion Post #0034. He joined American Standard in December 1946 attending a sales training program. While at American, he attended Columbia University of Business and held various sales positions including Vice President of Marketing and Sales, and Director of Exports. After early retirement from American Standard in 1979, he was offered the position of General Sales Manager at Burnham Corp. in Lancaster. He often stated how wonderful it was to have come to Lancaster County and make this, his final home. He left Burnham in July 1984. He had been a member of Tamarack C.C. in Greenwich, CT, Canoe Brook C.C. in Summit, NJ and Grand Harbor C.C. in Vero Beach, FL. While in Lancaster, he stated his golf and fellowship with a fine group of retirees at Overlook Golf Course was the most enjoyable. He was a parishioner at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and enjoyed the warmth and support he received from the St. John Neumann family. He and his wife moved to Woodcrest Villa in November of 2001 and found another wonderful family, in particular, Martha Anderman and Dick Olson. His sister, Florence, preceded him in death in 1967. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. to be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Monsignor Richard A. Youtz as Celebrant. Final Farewell and Commendation will be held at St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery. At Frank’s request, memorials may be sent in his memory to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Dr., P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
