Dorothy Janet Fasnacht

Dorothy Janet Fasnacht, 96, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. Born in Nanty-Glo, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Janet (McClelland) Dukes. She grew up as a coal miner’s daughter in western Pennsylvania. After high school, she continued to Cambria Rowe Business School where she received an associate degree in business. She met her first husband Dr. Miles Harriger and they married in 1948 and moved to Lancaster, PA a few years later. Together Miles and Dorothy had five children, the late Miles D. Harriger, Jr., Dr. Janet Harriger, Jeanne (late Joseph) Ryan, JoAnn (Keith) Cenekofsky, Joseph (Julie) Harriger. Dorothy raised their family in Lancaster, County. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for her husband and later went to work for the Hempfield School District. Dorothy was a 69-year member of Trinity United Church of Christ in East Petersburg, where she also taught Sunday School. Later, Dorothy married Clair M. Fasnacht in 1980. They were active in the Lancaster Leiderkranz where they participated in a dance group together. They enjoyed traveling to Germany and Ireland. She was an avid card player, participating in two Bridge Clubs, Pinochle, and any card game. During her free time, she loved reading and she learned to play the piano later in life. Dorothy loved spending time and sharing her positive energy with her children and grandchildren, Alycia, Michael, David, Megan, Elise, Miles, Andrew, Katie, Tyler, Bradley, Brandon, and Brian. She was a devoted Phillies fan. She is also survived by her stepsons, Jim (late Monica), Scott (Aimee), and Jeffrey (Bonnie) Fasnacht; her 12 grandchildren; her 11 great-grandchildren; her brother Arthur James Dukes and many more whom she loved so dearly. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Clair M. Fasnacht and son, Miles D. Harriger, Jr. A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity UCC Church, 2340 State Street, East Petersburg, PA 17520, on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Friends are welcome to greet the family at 10:00 a.m. for the viewing in church. Interment will follow the service at East Petersburg UCC Cemetery.
