Donald S. Bowman

Donald S. Bowman, of Lancaster, PA, died in his 85th year on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Born in Lebanon, PA he was the son of the late Ira G. and Laura Foltz Bowman. He was the husband of Lois J. Dowhower Bowman, with whom he celebrated sixty-three years of marriage. Don was a graduate of Lebanon High School, attended Franklin and Marshall College and graduated from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in the National Guard. He retired as a Vice-President and Director of Financial Analysis of Irex Corporation and later worked in Commercial Real Estate. He served the Board of Directors of the Heritage Savings Association as Assistant Treasurer. Don was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ where he served as Church Treasurer and was part of the Consistory Serving as a Deacon, Elder and as1st Lay President of the Consistory and Congregation. He formerly served on the Board of Trustees at the Lancaster Theological Seminary, was a twenty-five year member of the Lancaster Rotary Club, and a member of the National Association of Accountants. Don was former member of Meadia Heights Golf Club and Lebanon Country Club, where served as past President. He enjoyed playing golf. Don especially enjoyed spending time with his family and being a regular spectator at his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Beth A. Smith, MD, wife of Rev. Douglas Smith of Hanover, PA, Sue A. Bowman of Lancaster, four grandchildren, Laura, wife of John Batalis, Nathan, husband of Erin Smith, Stephanie, wife of Brett Kelly, Timothy Smith and two great-grandchildren, Anna Batalis and William Smith. He is predeceased by a brother Robert K. Bowman and sister Eleanor J. Carpenter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Don’s Funeral Service on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at First Reformed United Church of Christ, 40 E. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 with The Reverend Douglas Smith officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00A.M. until time of service. Interment will take place in Covenant/Ebenezer Cemetery, Lebanon, PA. In lieu of flowers, Memorials in Don’s name may be made to First Reformed United Church of Christ, 40 E.
