Donald (Don) R. Shaub

Donald (Don) R. Shaub, Sr., 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Violet Andrews Shaub and the son of the late Abram Elmer and Ruth Rothfus Shaub. Born and raised in Lancaster City, Don attended McCaskey High School and later earned his GED. From 1952 to 1956, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Korean War Veterans Group. After completing his tour of duty with the Air Force, Don worked for Food Fair/Pantry Pride for 21 years. He was then employed by the Manheim Township School District for 19 years and retired in 1998. Don joined St. Peter's Lutheran Church in 1960, where he met his wife Violet. They married in 1962, raised three children and celebrated 45 years together before her death in 2007. He was a faithful and active member of the church and could often be found volunteering at church functions and participating in Bible studies and church bus trips. In addition to serving the community through his church work, Don was a member of the Manheim Township Lions Club for 25 years. He became the Club’s Tail Twister in 2000 and also served as Chairman of the Club's Adopt A Road Program for a number of years. He also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program. Don enjoyed being active and was often seen riding his bike, swimming and walking to various activities around Lancaster County. He enjoyed watching high school and college sports and was especially a fan and supporter of Penn State. He will be remembered for his love of music and his rather extensive collection of record albums, record players, tapes and CD's. He also loved attending community concerts. Don was loyal, faithful, and hard working, had a wonderful smile and sense of humor and will be remembered for telling stories and jokes. Donald is survived by his three children, Donna Ruth, wife of Rev. George D. Lippitt, Columbia, MD; Donald Richard "Rick" Shaub, Jr., husband of Susan M. Shaub, Mountville, PA; and Diane Rochelle, wife of Paul A. Barone, Lancaster, PA; three grandsons, two granddaughters and one step-grandson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Donald's funeral service at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601, on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Craig A. Ross officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service and at the luncheon following the service. Internment will take place at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Neffsville, PA immediately following the luncheon. (Military honors will be rendered by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Peter's Lutheran Church in his memory. The family would like to thank the staff at Moravian Manor and Hospice of Masonic Village for the wonderful care they provided to Donald during his last days.
