Antonio Hammond

Antonio Hammond, was born to Essie Mae Devlin in Washington D.C. on February 9, 1962. He was later adopted and raised by Pearl and Earl Hammond, who loved him with all of their heart. Antonio was blessed to reunite with his birth mother, Essie Mae Devlin in 2019. Antonio Hammond passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 2, 2023, transitioning from labor to reward. Antonio, affectionately known as “Tony,” gave his life to the Lord at a young age at Rays Temple Church of God in Christ, at a summer revival. As an adult, he joined Ebenezer Baptist Church. He served on the Board of Trustees for many years, taking care of maintenance needs at the church whenever he could. He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School, Lancaster, PA. in 1980. After high school, Tony attended Millersville University, Millersville, PA. and later earned an HVAC Technician Certification. He apprenticed with his father, Earl Hammond at Earl Hammond Heating and Air Conditioning for nearly 10 years. For twenty-six years, Tony owned and operated Hammond Heating & A.C. Inc., working primarily in residential HVAC sales and service, until his retirement in 2017. He was also a real estate investor in Lancaster, for many years. Tony loved to work on homes, making them look beautiful with his own craftsmanship. He loved working with his hands. Tony enjoyed cooking on his barbecue pit for social, family and church events. Some of his favorite past times included: fishing, going to the beach, and playing a good card game of 500 Rummy and Spades. He also loved cars and collected classic convertible cars. Tony enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves to cherish his beloved memory: his dear wife of forty years, Rev. Vondol Hammond; daughters, Keshonda (Charles) Hawes and Nyisha Hammond; sons, Antonio (Danielle) Hammond II and Errol Hammond; granddaughters, Shaolin Gardner and Camila Hammond; and great-grandson, Jesiah Henry. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory: his beloved mother, Essie Mae Devlin; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Duvol; a brother, George Harvey; sisters, Tawanna Harvey, Teresa Harvey and Ladon Johnson; sister-in-law, Samantha Duvol and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He also has two “special brothers”, Brent Thomas (Ace) and Morris McClary (Munchie). Tony was preceded in death by his parents; Pearl and Earl Hammond; a father-in-law, William Duvol; a brother, Walter Devlin Jr; a brother-in-law, William Duvol II, and a sister-in-law, Detra Duvol. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Tony’s Homegoing Service at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 701 N. Lime Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Roland P. Forbes, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
