Anne R. Shaida

Anne R. Shaida, of Lancaster, PA formerly of Suffern, NY, was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late William and Eva Shaida. She was a graduate of the City College of New York and received her Master’s Degree from Columbia University’s Teachers College, along with advanced degrees from the University of Stockholm, Sweden and the University of Heidelberg, Germany. She was a member of Delta Pi Epsilon and Kappa Delta Pi. She was chair of the Business Department and taught Business Law at Suffern High School in Suffern, NY. She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church and St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Auxiliary, serving as treasurer for a number of years Anne was a blessing to all who knew her. Throughout her teaching career, she made a difference in the lives of her students, often going beyond the classroom walls to offer assistance and support. Her kindness and generosity was felt by her colleagues and friends. But her heart, passion, and love belonged to her family. Her presence brightened every holiday, every birthday, and every special occasion, especially if she was wearing one of her unique hats. Anne liked to travel and take photographs of her many adventures. After her retirement from teaching, she enjoyed presenting travelogues to various civic and community groups. She also enjoyed reading, and doing cross-stitch tapestries. She resided at Country Meadows of Lancaster since November 2006. The family would like to express our appreciation and thanks for the loving care and attention provided by the staff. Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Stephanie Jaremko and Antonia “Toni” Jaremko, and her brothers John H. Shaida and Peter L. Shaida. She is survived by her sister-in-law Laura Shaida, brother-in-law Joseph Jaremko, nieces Pat Kohler, Marilou Adams, Gloria Jaremko, and nephews, Chris Shaida, Nick Jaremko, Joe Jaremko, and William Jaremko. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service of memory and celebration at the Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange Street (corner of Orange & Pine Sts.) on Monday at 11:00a.m. with the Reverend Ron Adams officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private. In lieu of fresh flowers, the family is suggesting potted flowers. These will be planted in the courtyard area at Country Meadows where Anne enjoyed strolling. Monetary contributions for the memorial garden should be sent to Country Meadows, 1380 Elm Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603.
