Andrew R. Yerman

Andrew R. Yerman, 77, of Lancaster, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Hospice & Community Care in Lancaster. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Arnold and Dorothy Virshup Yerman and was the husband of Alice E. Yerman with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage. Andy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from West Virginia University and worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for 32 years, retiring in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army during the end of the Korean War. He was a member of Temple Shaarai Shomayim, Lancaster, where he participated in the Social Action Committee and the winter shelter for the homeless program. He also volunteered for Hospice of Lancaster County, Lancaster General Hospital, 1st grade at Ross Elementary School, and Grace Lutheran Church Community Meal. Along with his wife, they were awarded the “Volunteer Couple of the Year for Jewish Family Service.” In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and puzzles. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Bruce Yerman (Susanna Bevis) of Brooklyn, NY; Adam Yerman ( Elma Alvarez Ric) of Barcelona, Spain; and two daughters: Pamela Shank (Bill) of Palmyra, PA; and Rachel Fisher (Glenn) of Lewisburg, PA. He is also survived by a sister, Susan, wife of Vincent Warren, of London, England and 12 grandchildren: Brennan, Patrick, Ethan, Sienna, Eric, Wilson, Laia, Sawyer, Jacob, Hannah, Alexander, and Rebecca. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Andy’s funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Temple Shaarai Shomayim, 75 East James Street, Lancaster, PA with Rabbi Jack P. Paskoff officiating. The family will greet friends at the Temple from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
