William B. Winder

William B. Winder, (aka Cowboy) 70, of Lancaster, went to be with Jesus on Monday, December 26, 2016 after a lengthy illness at home surrounded by his family. William worked and retired from Pennsylvania Power and Light after 34 years of service. He was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U.S. Army with the 3/21st Infantry Battalion. Born in Miami, FL and resided over fifty years in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Eddie and Bertha (Tollar) Winder. A Christian, William was an active member of Bright Side Baptist Church, Lancaster, where he was a member of BBCC and the Men’s choir and driver for the Opportunity Centers after school program where he also helped the young boys attending build model cars. He also assisted with the maintenance of the church and Opportunity center’s vehicles. William aka Cowboy was an avid motorcycle rider and Vice President of the Highway Cruisers motorcycle club of Lancaster. He enjoyed working on vehicles, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Also surviving are five children; William J. Winder, Sr. married to Lisa of Lancaster, James E. Winder, married to Jamie of Virginia, Sherly A. Winder, of Virginia, Joseph B. Winder, of Lancaster, Giannia M. Reid of Georgia; Twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister; Margaret Thomas of Florida, and a host of family, friends, nieces and nephews and longtime companion Bertha Woodard of Lancaster. He was also preceded in death by two brothers; Joe C and Eddie Winder. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend William’s Celebration of Life Funeral Service on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Bright Side Baptist Church, 515 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held in the Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery where the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard will perform Military Services. He was devoted to his children, family, friends and the church and will be deeply missed.
