Virginia L. "Ginny" Forker

Virginia L. “Ginny” Forker, 76 of Lancaster, PA, formerly of New York, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Evergreen Estates. She fought a fierce battle with both Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the wife of Samuel D. Forker and they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on June 20th. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Stubbs Patterson. Ginny loved her over 40-year career as a registered nurse, 26 of those at Lancaster General Hospital. She spent most of her career in the nursery, but also worked later in medical records and coding. She retired on May 1, 2008. Ginny was fond of many things and supported many causes. She was a 35-year breast cancer survivor. She loved summers spent on Sebec Lake in Maine, flowers, having her hair and nails done, ice cream and listening to music by Elvis Presley. Above all else, the thing that brought her the most joy was her family. Simple times surrounded by her loved ones were her very favorite. She was our biggest supporter and cheerleader and her love was evident in everything she did. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Kathleen L., wife of Rick D. Rye, Columbia, PA and son, Samuel D. Forker, Jr., husband of Aileen M. Forker, Lewes, DE; a brother, Joseph, husband of Judy Patterson, Springfield, IL, two grandchildren, Chloe N. Rye and Bailey D. Rye; a sister-in-law, Marilyn, wife of Charles McCarthy, Buffalo, NY, a niece, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial from St. Anthony of Padua Church, 503 E. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Daniel O’Brien Celebrant. The family will receive friends at The Groff Family Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange St. (corner of W. Orange St. & Pine Sts.), Lancaster, PA 17603 on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until time of departure for church. Interment at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
