Stanley J. Buch

Stanley J. Buch, 92, of Lancaster died at his residence on Friday, August 19, 2016. Born in Lancaster, the son of the late William “Joe” Buch and Helen Getz Buch and the husband of Irene Ashmead Buch, married for 69 years. Stan graduated from McCaskey H.S. in 1941. After graduating from Medical Technical school at Bethesda Naval Hospital he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945, attaining the highest rank of PhM 2nd Class. Stan obtained his B.A. in Biology from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon, and his B.S. in Pharmacy from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science. He operated Buch’s Pharmacy from 1948 thru 1971 until merging with Manor Pharmacy to form Pharmacy-Lab Associates. In 1973, he sold all interests in PLA. For many years he served as President and Treasurer of Lancaster County Pharmacy. He also served on the Executive Committee of the PA Pharmacy Association and was elected as a charter member of Academy of General Practice of Pharmacy by the American Pharmacy Association. While involved in association work, Stan worked with Strasburg Pharmacy for more than 15 years. Since 1933, Stan served on the staff and was a member of Lancaster YMCA receiving Senior Director status. He received the Outstanding Service Award in 1959, 1965, and 1969. He was known for his dedication to teaching trampoline to all age groups and skill levels for over 20 years. Additionally, he was a member American Legion Post 34, Lancaster Liederkranz, and Church of the Apostles. . In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Eric Buch, Port Angeles, WA, daughter, Linda Buch, Aurora, CO, and grandson, Dustin Buch, Washougal, WA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Stan’s Memorial Service at Church of the Apostles UCC, 1850 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Kathryn L. Kuhn officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private interment will be in the Memorial Garden of Church of the Apostles, UCC.
