Shirley G. Lefever

Shirley G. Lefever, age 87, of Lancaster County, passed away at Masonic Villages on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Born in Lampeter, PA to the late John Herr Groff and Frances Willard Mylin. Shirley graduated in 1952 from Lancaster General Hospital’s nursing program. She was a homemaker, raising four children. As a long-time member of Marticville Methodist Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Through the Church, she was a cottage holder for many years at Rawlinsville Camp Meeting, where she played the trumpet for the evening services. She was also a member of the Farm Woman group where she served as an active officer. Additionally, she served as a Penn Laurel Girl Scout Leader and a nurse for the Furnace Hills Summer Camp. Shirley was a member of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church and a member of the Blue Mountain 50plus club, where she traveled all over the country. Shirley has fond memories from her travels. She enjoyed games, such as pinochle and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. She retired as a Registered Nurse from U.C.C. Retirement Center in Myerstown, PA. She was a woman of faith and a believer. She loved her children and her many friends, most recently her friends at Benjamin Franklin Health Center, Floor 2 including “Mason” aka “Pretty Boy” and thanks the staff for their compassion and friendship. Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Carolyn Thomas (Duane) of New Danville, Brenda Higgins (Greg) of Elizabethtown, and Barbara Slagle (Joseph) of Millersville; her son, Andrew Funk of Brogue York County; her 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, along with her brother, John Henry Groff of Willow Valley and her sister, Evelyn G. Keir of Athens, PA. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all of her Eskimo Spitz’s “Fluffy”. She was preceded in death by her brother Benjamin Groff. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Shirley’s life on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 West Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Graveside Service at Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery, 399 E. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, PA 17584.
