Ruth E. Myers Herman

Ruth E. Myers Herman went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. Born on February 1, 1927, she was the youngest daughter of the late Hiram and Louisa White Myers. After receiving her education at the North Star School, Ruth was employed with the Hamilton Watch Company. While working for the Hamilton Watch, Ruth met, dated and married John H. Herman, Jr. on October 6, 1951. Ruth was a very nurturing woman, inspired by her faith. She stressed that her children be responsible, caring adults. Ruth and John raised three children with love and guidance: Joseph M., Dorothy L., and Jeffrey B. While raising her family she was a homemaker for many years, eventually re-entering the workplace at St. Joseph Hospital (now Lancaster Regional) until she retired. She was a fifty plus year member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lancaster, PA, where she will be remembered for her reassuring notes and letters written to congregational members and family. In retirement, Ruth is remembered for her greetings, hand waves, and smiles to all who walked by as she sat on her porch on College Avenue. Ruth’s greatest love was for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed being with her family. Ruth is survived by three children: Joseph M. married to Janice L. (Falk) Herman, Conestoga, Dorothy L. Herman, Columbia and Jeffrey B. Herman, Lancaster. Also surviving are her sister-in-laws: Mary Jo Grimm and Jean Herman, both of Lancaster, four grandchildren: Kathleen, wife of Christopher Sauer, Landisville, Brian E. Harman, husband of Kristy (Henderson), Clarkdale, Arizona, Christopher Herman, Lancaster and Christina Herman, Lancaster. Ruth is also survived by nine great grandchildren, two nephews and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her brother, Lloyd C. Myers, her sister, Mary Myers Eshleman and her grandson, Daniel Herman. The family would like to thank the staff of Maple Farms for their compassionate care of Ruth. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth’s Funeral Service on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange Street (corner of W. Orange & Pine Sts.), Lancaster, PA at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Adam Morton officiating. The family will receive friends at The Groffs from 12 Noon until the time of service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s name may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 2 W. Strawberry Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
