Millicent "Millie" M. Fry

Millicent M. “Millie” Fry passed away on February 12, 2026, at the age of 97, having "died the way she wanted to, Quickly!" True to the vibrant life she lived, Millie remained healthy, active, and engaged until just days before her passing. Born in Jamaica, New York, she was the daughter of the late Francis Leo Smith and Edna Lenore (Brower) Smith. A lifelong member of The Episcopal Church, Millie often said she "Enjoyed the church steeple people!" She was a devoted and faithful parishioner of Saint James Episcopal Church in Lancaster for many years, where her warmth and gentle spirit were felt by many. After graduating high school, Millie enrolled in Secretarial School, earning the equivalent of an associate degree. She worked for many years as a secretary, bringing dedication and professionalism to her career. Millie shared a beautiful life and marriage with her late husband, Donald Fry, Jr., affectionately known by many as "The Two Love Birds." Together, they were New York State Roller Skating Champions, a testament to their energy, teamwork, and shared joy in life. A woman of many interests, Millie was a voracious reader, devoted dog lover, and proud card-carrying member of "The Lab Club." She was an enthusiastic sports fan, faithfully cheering on Penn State teams and the New York Giants. Her love of books extended beyond personal enjoyment; she generously gave her time as an active volunteer at the Lancaster Public Library. They say that "timing is everything", yet one of Millie’s greatest accomplishments was surviving the adventure of raising all four of her teenage children at the same time. She was their steadfast cheerleader and later, an equally devoted supporter of her grandchildren attending games, celebrating achievements, and offering encouragement at every opportunity. When carving out a bit of "me time," Millie found joy in quiet afternoons spent knitting or searching for the perfect treasure in an antique store. One of her greatest simple pleasures was indulging in a good dessert. One thing that Millie was "famous" for, were her fun sayings and quippy quotes. As she would put it, "She's not died and gone to heaven, she's gone to her great reward!”. Well, knowing Millie, she’s already made heaven a little brighter and a lot more interesting. She is the beloved wife of the late Donald Fry, Jr.; devoted mother of Donald Fry, III and his wife Julie of Virginia Beach, VA; Carolyn Deitz of Lancaster, PA; Melissa Conover and her late husband, Richard of Lancaster, PA; and the late Kevin F. Fry and his late wife Marguerite. She was the dear sister of the late Francis Smith, Jr.; loving grandmother of Michael, Matthew, Katherine, Natalie, Donald IV, Jennifer, Christopher, Kevin, Justin, Megan, Kirsten, and Annalyn; and proud great-grandmother of fourteen. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Saint James Episcopal Church, 119 North Duke Street, Lancaster, PA, where a Visitation will be begin at 12 Noon. Her service will conclude with interment in Saint James' Churchyard Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lancaster Public Library,151 N.
