Louis Almond Jr.

Walter Louis Almond, Jr., 101, of Lancaster, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Calvary Homes. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the husband of the late Helen Duncan Sutherland Almond who passed away on October 5, 2023. His first wife, Stella Mae Bills Almond passed away in November of 1988. He was the son of the late Walter Louis Almond, Sr. and Alice Lillian Dodson Almond. Louis was a dedicated and lifelong missionary. He graduated from Corcoran School of the Arts and Design, Washington, D.C., and was an accomplished artist, Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, and the Dallas Theological Seminary Dallas, Texas. His missionary work took him to China in 1949 and then Thailand, along with many other places around the world. He was an ordained minister who would evangelize with anyone he met. He served with the Oversees Missionary Fellowship and at one time was a member of the Scofield Memorial Church in Dallas, Texas. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He is survived by twin daughters, Rebecca Alline Almond, partner of David J. Calhoun, Kansas City, MO, and Elizabeth “Betsy” A. Walker, wife of Gregg B. Walker, Hillsboro, Kansas, sons, David L. Almond, Dallas, TX, Paul R. Almond, husband of Debi, Point Comfort, TX and stepdaughter, Libby Aulenbach, Mohnton, PA; 12 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, and multiple great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight siblings, his first wife, Stella, a stepson, Paul Sutherland, and a step-grandson, Josiah Pieller. His second wife, Helen passed away on October 5, 2023. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Chapel of Calvary Homes, 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Kevin Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Calvary Homes, 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601. The interment will be private.
