Leon E. Stevens,

Leon E. Stevens, Jr., left this world on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 9:14 a.m. to meet his Lord and Savior in Heaven. Leon was a man of strong faith and was ready for his final journey after a valiant battle with cancer. He loved his God and his many friends in faith that he had met over the years. Leon was born in Lancaster, PA on November 24, 1946, a son of Leon E. Stevens, Sr. and Hazel Irene Beard Stevens. Leon is survived by his wife of 43 years, Bartena L. Stevens of Lancaster, a brother Edward Stevens and his wife Bonnie, and sister, Hazel “Honey” Asper, all of Landisville, a brother-in-law, Bryant L. Millhouse and wife, Patricia of Lancaster and niece, Brandi E. Millhouse and her two daughters: Julia and Sylvia whom he loved dearly of Conestoga, PA. He was predeceased by sisters: Isabelle Aston, Christina Ville and brother, Benjamin Horn. Being an employee for the past 15 years of Lancaster General Health in the Food Services Department, Leon loved his job and his co-workers. He would have worked up to his last day on this earth if he had been strong enough. Special gratitude from the family goes out to many of Leon’s fellow co-workers who visited him daily in both the hospital and nursing home. He was extremely touched by a visit from his buddy “Colgate” and the gifts he brought him. Leon loved the Phillies and the Eagles and tried to catch all their games. He enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and playing Scrabble with his wife, Bartena. He loved his canine companion Skippy who will be waiting for Leon at The Golden Bridge. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Pastor’s Phil Good and Scott Phillips of Mill Creek Bible Church and the many members of this wonderful house of worship for the unending care for both Leon and his wife, Bartena. The spiritual support given by these people has been amazing. The daily visits to Leon brightened his day. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Leon’s Life at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., 528 W. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 12:00 pm with the Rev. Phil Good officiating. Interment will be held at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia, PA. There will be no viewing. In keeping with Leon’s love for his church, the family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Mill Creek Bible Church, 270 Strasburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17602.
