Kenneth G. Ernst

Kenneth G. Ernst, 88, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Louis John and Lottie Mae (Lefever) Ernst. He was the husband of late Gloria Ann (Theis) Ernst who died in 2007 and he was married to Yvonne C. (Warfel) Johnson Ernst of Lancaster. Kenneth served in the US Air Force as a Sergeant, Radar Mechanic. His education includes the School District of Lancaster (1946) and received his Bachelors of Science (1952) and Masters of Science (1969) from Millersville University. Mr. Ernst retired as a teacher after 33 years, 17 instructing Industrial Arts in Lancaster and Penn Manor School Districts, and 16 years as a Guidance Counselor at Penn Manor High School. After retiring from public education, he was a business owner of Video Manor in Lancaster. A life-long fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles; Kenneth played and coached for several championship baseball teams in Lancaster while serving in the Air Force. He was an avid collector of historical memorabilia pertaining to Lancaster City, having authored and contributed to multiple “The Lancaster That Was” and “I Know a Story” articles/stories published in the Lancaster Newspapers. Since 1944, Kenneth was an active member of Faith United Church of Christ in Lancaster. He was a member of multiple local and national clubs/organizations, including leadership roles in the Millersville Borough Council and Jaycees. He loved playing with his grand and great grandchildren, loved to travel and garden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert K. (Cheryl S.) Ernst, a twin brother, Eugene H. married to Gloria S. Ernst, and a sister, Louise (Rev. David) Mark; two grandchildren, Jason Robert Ernst and Kristin Ann Hall; great-grandchilden, Dillon and Nolan Ernst and Chloe Hall. Kenneth was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Lynn Ernst, a brother, Robert L. Ernst, and two sisters, Norma Jean and Mary Joan Ernst. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith United Church of Christ, 1204 Wabank Road, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. John C. Rieker officiating. A Viewing will be held at the church on Tuesday from 10-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.
