Kathryn Jean Grove

Our loving mother, Kathryn Jean Grove, departed this Earth early Wednesday morning, August 16, 2023, at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center. Mom was never early for anything, but she was also never a fan of the “Grove Goodbye” (we Grove’s tend to be long-winded.) When she was ready to go, she was ready to go, and so she passed peacefully, surrounded by her family. What can we say about our mother? Well, aside from being punctual , she was the daughter of the late William “Harry” and Dorothy Lantz Baldwin, and graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1967. She worked at Millersville University for over 30 years, retiring in 2010 as an IT Computer Control Technician. Upon retiring, she was promptly reemployed as a part-time nanny to her two youngest grandchildren, Brielle and Asher. Mom was a fantastic cook and baker of all things savory and delicious; lasagna and apple dumplings were among her top hits. She enjoyed the beach, reading, movies, and deep conversations on physics. Okay, she didn’t know a lot about physics, however, she was an avid fan of Rod “Roddie Baby” Stewart, Tina Turner, Phil Collins, and Lionel Ritchie. Yes, Mom was known to dance on the ceiling. By far, Mom’s favorite pastime was loving and spoiling her grandchildren. Countless times she would show up with a package for one of them saying, “I’m not sure when I ordered this, but I came across it the other day…” (We suspect she was single-handedly responsible for keeping the East Coast Amazon operations in business.) She was proud of all her grandchildren, along with their individual and unique talents. Her love and care for them was immense and endless, as was her love for her entire family. We will miss her laughter, hugs, kisses, and love. Mom is survived by three children, Stephanie L., wife of Joe Murr, Michael R. Grove, and Anthony R. Grove, husband of Kara, all of Lancaster, PA, a brother, David, husband of Nelly Baldwin, Harrisburg, PA, and a sister, Nancy Turner, Augusta, Kansas, four grandchildren, Joseph Murr, Kyle Murr, Brielle Grove, and Asher Grove, and her former husband, Ray Grove, Lancaster, PA. A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be announced later this Fall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the SPCA of Lancaster or to Water Street Rescue Mission. We love you to the moon and back, Mom.
