John Longenecker

John Longenecker, 91, died peacefully at Magnolias of Lancaster on Friday, October 6, 2023. Born in Salunga, he was the husband of the late Aileen (Werner) Longenecker, who passed away on June 28, 2021. Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage. John was the son of the late Amos B. and Mary (Peifer) Longenecker. He graduated from East Donegal High School in 1950 and attended Lancaster Business College. He worked for RCA in the color tube division for over 10 years before he found his true calling as a Property Owner and Manager of numerous rental homes in Lancaster City. He took pride in maintaining his properties and in providing affordable housing for his tenants. John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1958, followed by several years of service in the National Guard. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church for over 60 years where he served faithfully as a greeter and usher. Over the years he was a member of AMVETS, VFW, American Model Aviation Association and the Lancaster County Radio Control Club. He enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters, as well as bowling, golf, singing, frequenting his favorite local diners, and spending time with his family. John is lovingly survived by his children, Dennis Longenecker of Lancaster, Patti Longenecker of State College, PA, and Debra Naumann, wife of Tim Naumann of Lancaster. He is also survived by two brothers, Dave (Laura) Longenecker and James (Gloria) Longenecker of Elizabethtown, as well as three grandchildren, Victoria Diminick, wife of Conner Diminick of Lancaster, Ben Naumann, Chicago, IL, Julia Naumann, Lancaster and one great-grandchild, Leo Diminick. He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Elaine) Longenecker and sister, Ruth (Lester) Hoffman. Relatives and friends are invited to attend John’s Funeral Service at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA this Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
