John Hollinger III

John Hollinger III, died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home at Shannondell at Valley Forge on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. He was born in 1922 in Lancaster, PA, the son of the late John H. and Mary J. Hollinger. He was married for 47 years to the late Marilyn L. Herman Hollinger who died in 1999. He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1948, and then joined Armstrong Cork Company in the Flooring Sales Division and worked in several midwestern cities. He later joined Mannington Mills, Inc. in Salem, NJ and eventually served as Senior Vice President of Corporate retiring in 1987. Jack was active on the board and/or as a volunteer for many local organizations including United Way, YMCA, Salem Hospital, Chester County Hospital, the Salvation Army and the Inspira Foundation. He was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity and the Kennett Square Country Club. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 30th Infantry Division in the European Theater, and received two Purple Hearts. Jack was an avid golfer, enjoying the game throughout the United States and Europe. He is survived by his son, John M. Hollinger and wife, Denice of Woodstown, NJ; daughter-in-law, Ellen V. Hollinger of Kennett Square, PA; daughter, Ann H. Grogan and husband, John of Sarasota, FL; son, Thomas E. Hollinger and wife, April of Woodstown, NJ; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving partner, Barbara S. Peck of Shannondell. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark A. Hollinger, his sister, Mary Louise Farmer, and his brother, Andreas J. Hollinger. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Jack’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service at Calvary Lutheran Church, 730 S. New Street, West Chester, PA 19382 on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service. A private family interment will be in Willow Street UCC Cemetery.
