Jeffrey Troy

Jeffrey Troy, 76, of Lancaster passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2024, at his home surrounded by the loves of his life: his wife, his daughter, and their dogs. He was the loving husband of Lisa (Miller) Troy and the world’s best dad to Devin Troy (partner, Evan Kolesnick). A native NYC kid from Manhattan, Jeff’s spirit was as vibrant as the Big Apple itself. He had a decades-long career as a touring musician, writing original shows and topping charts with groups such as the Climax and Ricky and the Rockets. Most recently, he reunited with longtime friend Chubby Checker on tour and enjoyed playing bass and singing vocals with local band Sound of Roses. Jeff was an avid and gifted hobbyist, renowned in the remote control hobby industry for his skills in building and covering model airplanes. He turned this hobby into a successful second career as a published book author and editor-in-chief for multiple industry publications. Over the years, Jeff received numerous awards for aeromodelling craftsmanship, participated in and organized national RC competitions, ran a hobby store with his wife, served as president of the Valley Forge Signal Seekers, designed and developed his own model airplane kits, performed covering technique demonstrations, and was most recently a member of the Lancaster RC Club where he founded an annual vintage RC contest. He was very proud to be inducted into the Academy of Model Aeronautics Hall of Fame and the Vintage RC Society Hall of Fame. Jeff enjoyed building model kit cars, particularly his prized Bradley GT. He also restored and raced vintage go-karts, a hobby from childhood he loved sharing with his daughter. A film and tv enthusiast, suggesting new things to watch was one of Jeff’s favorite ways to stay connected with his many friends around the country. Jeff loved animals and never met a dog he didn’t need to pet. He and Lisa were active in dog rescue, fostering more than 30 English Setters and adopting six of their own. In addition to his wife and daughter, Jeff is survived by his son, Marc Troy; brother, Jon Troy; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Marc Grossman; stepfather, Buddy Troy; brother, Jay Troy; and mother, Patti Troy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jeff’s Memorial Service at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
