J. Roy Frey

J. Roy Frey, 95, of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Hamilton Arms, where he resided. Born in Millersville, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob Edwin Frey and Ada Fry Frey. He was first married to Margaret E. (Thompson) Frey of Lancaster, PA and the late Isabelle V. Pineda Frey. Roy attended Bethany Evangelical Church in Creswell, PA. He was a hardworking man spending most of his working years at Sperry New Holland as a machinist and then worked for New Holland Machine Company as a welder in Mountville. Earlier in his years, he worked for a dairy farm and delivered parts for Lancaster Toyota. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He had a passion for his family and camping and traveled to 49 states. As a young man, he enjoyed horses and going on cruises. He had a garage at his home and worked on many cars in his lifetime. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann (Frey) Zuck and his first wife, Margaret. Also surviving are five siblings, Ruth Jacobs, Columbia, PA, Esther F., wife of Ronald L. Obetz, Millersville, PA, Nancy J., wife of Russell Butler, Belair, MD, Richard E. Frey, Manheim, PA, and Linda Barton, Conestoga, PA; two step-children, Bruce, husband of Cindy Shuman, Smoketown, PA, and Brian, husband of Colleen Shuman, Lancaster, PA and three grandsons, J.B. Todd Barr, Cody and Tyler Shuman, and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Shuman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jacob Edwin Frey, Jr., Raymond Frey, Carl Frey, Robert Frey and a sister Edna M Keller. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Roy’s visitation at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. We will then go in procession to Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens for a Graveside Service, where Military Honors will be conducted by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice Compassus, 2101 Oregon Pike, Suite 301, Lancaster, PA 17601 in his memory.
