Irene C. Haas

Irene C. Haas, 86, of Lancaster, PA died peacefully at home with her son and a few of her “flowers” on Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Born in Shamokin, PA, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Katherine Lib Tos and was married to the late Edward J. Haas who died in 1983. She was a graduate of Coal Township High School. Irene worked at the make-up counter for Rea & Derick Drug Stores, cashier at People’s and CVS. Irene was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the Polish Women’s Alliance PWAA. She was bashful, but a very friendly person and enjoyed talking to people. She loved watching the grandkids sports as well as the Eagles and Phillies. Rene followed politics and was a news hound watching CNN 24/7. She never made cookies, just ate the cookie dough. She loved sweeping with her broom and vacuuming straight lines on her carpets. You would always find Rene with a coffee in her hand and stains on her shirts. Before she retired for the evening, you could always find her with a glass of Manischewitz. Irene loved to laugh, but couldn’t tell a joke – the punch line always came first!! She is survived by three sons: Edward, J. Jr. husband of Sharon Haas of Hockesin, DE, Robert C. husband of Terri Haas, of Lancaster, PA and Daniel P. husband of Amy Haas of Columbus, OH, a daughter Kitty Lafferty companion of Kerry Shoff of Millersville, PA, nine grandchildren: Angela Haas-DeMarco wife of Dave Demarco, Robert Haas, Jr., Frank husband of Rebecca Haas, Becky wife of John Kurtz, Kevin and Kristen Lafferty, Kyle Shoff, Drew and Allison Haas, and thirteen great grandchildren. She was survived by two nieces: Darla Rudy and Karen Linton of Shamokin, PA and preceded in death by two brothers: John and Henry Tosh. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Irene’s Funeral Service on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 929 N. Duke Street, Lancaster with The Reverend Norman C. Hohenwarter, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the Groffs Family Funeral Services, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. when a Remembrance Service will begin and departure to the church will be at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery.
