Dr. Allan Cooper

Dr. John Allan Cooper, 86, of Lancaster, PA, died Thursday, June 26, 2014. Born in Lititz, he was the son of the late Dr. Herbert Kurtz and Mercedes Miller Cooper. John was the husband of Meadrith “Mimi” Stengel Cooper, with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage. John served in the United States Army from 1945-1948 and later graduated from Franklin and Marshall College, Temple University School of Dentistry and The Dewey School of Orthodontics in New York and attended Columbia University. He practiced Orthodontics at Cooper and Long Orthodontics and The Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic, where he served as Director and he served on the staff at The Milton Hershey School. He was elected as a Fellow to the American College of Dentists and Fellow to the American College of Orthodontists. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, The American Association of Orthodontics, The Mid-Atlantic Association of Orthodontists and The Lancaster County Dental Society. He was a member of the Lititz Moravian Church, and the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, The Rajah Temple of Shriners. He was past Board President of Schreiber Pediatrics and he was a lifetime member of the Hamilton Club where he served on the Board of Directors. John served on the Board of the Lancaster Riding and Tennis Club and was a former member of the Beach Haven Yacht Club. John was a past director of the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic. In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mercedes, wife of P. Gregory Flory, Lancaster, Melissa, wife of Kevin W. Anderson, Lancaster, Mimi, wife of Robert F. Snyder of West Chester, and a son, Dr. John A. Cooper Jr., husband of Rosa, Lancaster. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Robert Snyder, Jr., Charles Murza, Kristen Froncillo and William Flory. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Herbert K. Cooper, Jr. and his sister Betty Cooper Long. John enjoyed music, travel, sports, reading and movies. Relatives and friends are invited to attend John’s Memorial Service on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 11:00A.M. at Lititz Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz, PA 17543. The family will greet friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00A.M. until time of service. Private Family Interment. The family wishes to thank The Mennonite Home and Hospice and Community Care.
