Dorothy "Dottie" Kurtz

Dorothy M. Kurtz departed this life for the next glorious life on May 23rd at Lancashire Hall where she’d been a resident since December 2009. She was the daughter of the late Nathan Hale Baker and the late Jennie G. Steele Baker. She was born in Lancaster on April 7, 1918. She will be deeply missed by her loving family – daughter Christina J. Draper (Barry L.), son Steven G. Kurtz (Kathleen A.), grandchildren Heather L. Madilia and Nathan M. Draper, and great-grandsons Joshua C. and Cameron J. Madilia, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by two sisters, Dawn Herr and Nancy Vital, and a brother, John Baker, and was preceded in death by sisters Ruth, Mary, Betty, Sarah, and Barbara, and brothers Charles (Pat) and Hale. Dottie spent the final productive years of her long and varied working career as a resident receptionist at the LGH School of Nursing, from which she retired in 1993 at the tender age of 75. She will be fondly remembered by many practicing men and women in the medical field who benefited from her kindness and warm heart. She was a wonderful woman who withstood the trials of life with dignity and resolve, and welcomed the joys and pleasures with her sincere love of life. As anyone who had the privilege of knowing her would attest – she never TOLD us how to live … she SHOWED us how to live. And for those Life Lessons, we will be forever grateful. Fare thee well sweet lady, and may your reunion with your loved ones in Heaven be joyous beyond earthly comprehension. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dottie’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 West Orange Street (corner of West Orange and Pine), with the Reverend John C. Rieker officiating. The family will receive friends at The Groffs on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Private interment at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers.
