Dorothea Elizabeth Barton

Dorothea Elizabeth Barton, 83, of Lancaster went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Robert Burns and Florence Mae Rittenhouse Barton. A 1957 graduate of Penn Manor High School and Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia with a degree in nursing. She began at Village Vista before working as an RN at Lancaster General Hospital for 21 years before becoming the Director of Nursing at The Lakes at Willow Valley for 17 years and coming out of retirement to teach at HACC for the CNA program for 13 years. Dottie was a woman who gave everything that she earned away. She instilled the highest of values in her family and community. She traveled extensively with family and friends and enjoyed watching Devin, her grandson, play baseball. She was a member of Grace Community Church in Willow Street. Dottie loved her dog and travel companion, Buddy. She is survived by her children: John Patrick Kelley (Pamela), New Danville, PA, Michael Sean Kelley (Adrienna), Chokoloskee, FL, Susan Elizabeth Connor (Jason), New Danville, stepson, Daniel Race (Kim), Wrightsville, four grandchildren: Devin Michael Connor, Dalton Daffin, Tatum Daffin, and Zachary Race, two great-grandchildren, Fisher Johnson, Summer Kelley, nieces and nephews, Dawn Shahan (Blaine), Robin Bollinger (Carroll), Christine Andrews (Randy), Bobbie Sue Heistand (James), Janie Barton, Robert Burns Barton IV, Dwain Daniels Jr., and Clay Daniels. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Barton, III and sister, Susan Daniels and her nephew, Shane Daniels. The family thanks Aunt Linda and everyone who lovingly dedicated their time to care for Dottie. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dottie’s Memorial Service at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Sigman and Andrew Potts officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
