David A. Strause

David A. Strause, 84, of Lancaster, PA, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 after a brief illness. Born February 4, 1932 in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Dr. Harold L. and Emma (Berger) Strause. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Sara “Sally” (Hiles) Strause. David Strause was a graduate of Reading High School and Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon. He began his career as a forest product developer, researching the manufacturing of plywood and particleboard. After moving to Lititz, PA he began a career in business, working for Yerger Brothers, Inc. and eventually became president of the company, retiring in 1987. For several years following, he and his wife owned Functional Furniture in Manassas, VA. David Strause served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War in which he was awarded the Purple Heart. While living in Lititz, he was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lititz. After moving to Lancaster, he was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He is survived by his four children: The Reverend Kurt S. Strause, husband of Lois Strause of Lancaster, PA; Ann S. Taylor, wife of Orville Taylor of LaPlata, MD; Dr. Roger H. Strause, husband of Lisa Strause of Lancaster, PA; and Carol L. Strause of Charlotte, NC. “Fa” as he was affectionately known, is also survived by six grandchildren; Renata, Dietrich, Elizabeth, and Emma Strause; Emily Meadows, wife of Kenneth Meadows; and Spencer Taylor, husband of Jessica Taylor; as well as a great-grandchild, Riley Taylor. He is also survived by a brother; Dr. Harold L. Strause and a sister, Patricia S. Sell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald B. Strause. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend David’s Funeral Service on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 540 West Walnut St., Lancaster, PA with The Reverend Keith R. Bitner preaching and The Reverend Ken R. Jetto, presiding. The family will receive friends at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 West Orange Street, (corner of W. Orange & Pine St.), Lancaster, PA on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bernville, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 540 West Walnut St., Lancaster, PA, 17603.
