Arlene D. Saam

Arlene D. Saam, 86, formerly of Longfellow Drive, Lancaster, PA, resided at Oak Leaf Manor North, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019, on the anniversary of her husband, Richard J. Saam’s death 20 years ago on June 24, 1999. God called out to Richard and said, “Arlene is coming home today, Dick – you better get ready.” We know he was standing beside Jesus welcoming her home. Born in Lancaster and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Frank I. and Bertha S. Lechner Kendig. Arlene was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and a member of Pearl Street United Methodist Church. Arlene was involved in Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. Her home was headquarters for Girl Scout Cookies for many years. She helped plan many Blue & Gold banquets. She worked part time at Watt & Shand for many years and loved working in the store over the holidays. Most of Arlene’s happiest moments were spent with family and making holidays special by preparing her home cooked meals. Always remembering her friends and family with greeting cards for every occasion was her thoughtful way of caring. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the care team at Oak Leaf Manor and Memorial White Rose Home Health & Hospice for their compassionate care. She is survived by two children, Richard J. Saam, Jr., Georgetown, Idaho and Deborah A., wife of Ronald E. Yunginger, Lancaster, PA, four grandchildren, Tiffanie, wife of Thomas Garcia, Keturah, wife of Kiel Fisher, Kyle Yunginger and Holly, wife of Taylor Brown; five great-grandchildren, Zella, Aburie, Kalyah, Ophelia and Cedar. Nam, husband of Jessica Tran and their son, Zac, close family friends, would always call her “Grandma.” She was preceded in death by her sister, Marcia K. Bard. A Memorial Service for Arlene’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Pearl Street United Methodist Church, 133 Pearl Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Alspaugh officiating.
