Anna Rote

Anna Rote, 94, of Lancaster, PA, passed away at Oak Leaf Manor South on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born in Soltvadkert, Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Jano’s Sajdik and Anna Van. She was the beloved wife of Lewis M. Rote, who preceded her in death in January 2006. Anna immigrated from Hungary in 1956, leaving behind family she cherished deeply and missed throughout the years. She later became a very proud naturalized citizen of the United States. Despite building a life in America, Anna maintained a strong connection to her homeland and often traveled back to Hungary to visit relatives, sometimes bringing her family along on these meaningful and memorable trips. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and cherished her involvement with the church’s women’s group. From an early age, Anna was hardworking and resilient. As a young woman in Hungary, she helped her family on their farm and later worked in factory warehouses. After immigrating to the United States, she was employed for many years at Hamilton Watch Company. Anna was an active member of AARP, where she enjoyed traveling and participating in many group trips. She and her husband shared a love for adventure, traveling with friends on cruises to Bermuda and the Bahamas, as well as other destinations. She especially loved spending time at the beach and hiking in the mountains. At home, Anna found great joy in gardening with her grandchildren and cooking traditional Hungarian meals for her family. She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Kim) Szurok, John (Karen) Szurok, and Danny Szurok; three grandchildren, Fawn (Blake) Evans, Kristina (Jason) Albright, and Kevin (Britney) Szurok; four great-grandchildren, Reece, Dane, Kamden, and Kaden; her brother, Karci Sajdik; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who reside in Hungary. In addition to her parents and her husband, Anna was preceded in death by her brothers, Janos and Lucci, and her sister, Yolanka. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Anna’s memory may be made to Ascend Hospice, 1120 Welsh Rd, North Wales, PA 19454.
