Anna H. Martin

Anna H. Martin, 86, died on Monday, February 12, 2018 passing away peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord Jesus Christ at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Christian G. and Elsie H. Mowrer Habecker and the wife for 57 years to the late L. Howard Martin who died in 2010. Anna grew up in Washington Boro, PA. She was a graduate of Penn Manor High School and the Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing where she obtained her registered nursing degree. She married Howard in 1952 and in 1962 they built a home on the Martin family farm. In 1977 they moved to the farm homestead as 4th generation Martins to occupy the farm. She had a nursing career until raising her family and was a wonderful devoted wife and mother. On the farm, she helped and utilized her nursing skills for her family and was a “farm nurse” caring for the cows and horses and spent many hours caring for the newborn calves and foals. Her love for the Lord Jesus Christ, flowers, bird-watching and vegetable gardening was passed along throughout the years to her family. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her six sisters as well as her church family. She was past president of the local chapter #23 of the Society of Farm Women in the mid 1970’s. Anna was a woman of great faith and had a spirit of unending gentleness, graciousness and kindness. She is survived by a son, Lee H. (Naomi G.) Martin, II, of Lancaster, PA daughters, Mary Ann M. Hays of Vilas, NC and Liz Martin of Lancaster, PA, three grandchildren: Rachel Hays, Krista Anna (Jacob) Cook, Katie E. (Brandon) Smith and one great-grandchild, Joseph Howard Smith, five sisters: Miriam Miller, Columbia, PA, Esther (Donald) Nolt, Lancaster, PA, Mary Ellen Weaver, Lancaster, PA, Floss (Wade) Dryden, Upperco, MD and Edna (Dick) Shenk, Lancaster, PA,. She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Barley. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Anna’s Funeral Service at Central Manor Church of God, 387 Penn Street, Washington Boro, PA on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dr. Scott Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna’s memory may be made to Central Manor Church of God, 387 Penn Street, Washington Boro, PA 17582.
