Almore G. Robb, Sr.

Almore G. Robb, Sr., 97, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. Born in Sunbury, PA, he was the son of the late Elijah and Margaret (Hoover) Robb. His wife Joyce B. (Miller) Robb, died in 2009. After graduating from Sunbury High School in 1939, Almore worked a short while for J.C. Penney, Big Boy Auto Parts and as a platform manager of Speedway Carriers. Most of his life, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad as a linesman on the electric catenary system. In March 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps working as Office Staff, enlisted in the Pilot Cadet training program stationed at Olmstead Field, Middletown, PA, then to Lockbourne Airfield, Columbus, OH and finally onto Mississippi State College, Starkville, MS, receiving three years of college credit in the Pilot Training program. Almore came home to Sunbury, PA returning to work for the PA Railroad as a linesman. After being promoted to Gang Forman of the Wire Train, he helped to construct and maintain the overhead catenary system retiring after 32 years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed hiking, fishing, bowling and hunting of all types. He was a member of DAV, AAA, NRI and Masonic Lodge (Andrew Hershey #764 of Lancaster) and a past member of Big Trestle Hunting Camp and his son's hunting camp, Robin's Nest, both in Potter County. Surviving are his children, Connie M. Buhl, Karen L Keller (James) and Almore G. Robb (Cindy); his son-in-law, Jeffrey S. Andrews, Sr.; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Robb-Andrews, one great-grandson and his brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to funeral services at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA (corner of W. Orange & Pine Sts.) on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at The Groffs on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial with military honors will be rendered by Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard at Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster.
