Allan "Jim" Ziegler

Allan James "Jim" Ziegler, 66, of Lancaster, died at Hospice of Lancaster County after a 2 ½ year struggle with lung cancer on Thursday afternoon August 26, 2010. Born in Lancaster Jim was the son of the late Joseph C. and Dorothy E. Mattern Ziegler. He and his wife Dawn Weaver Ziegler celebrated their fifth anniversary this past June. Previously he was married to Jean Ziegler of Lancaster.A graduate of J.P. McCaskey H.S. in 1962, he joined the U.S. Marines in 1964. Jim retired after 31 years with Armstrong World Industries as a production supervisor in the flooring & ceiling division. After his retirement he spent ten years with Friendly Transportation as a charter driver. He was a member of the Andrew Hershey Masonic Lodge, the Red Rose Chapter of AMBUCS and the Green Hill Sportsman Assoc. At one time he participated in scouting as Weeblo Leader and a Cub Master he also was a coach for Little League Football. Jim loved hunting and fishing and going to the beach. He was very patriotic and loved his country and had great admiration for those who served it. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons Michael Ziegler and James R. Saurbaugh married to Christina Border Saurbaugh all of Lancaster and a daughter Jennifer Saurbaugh Weaver married to Ronald Grube of Cleona, PA. Jim also leaves four granddaughters Abigail, Hanna and Laura Saurbaugh and Sarah Grube, and his two brothers Joseph C. Ziegler, Jr. husband of Lauren Algier Ziegler and Thomas E. Ziegler all of Lancaster. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim's life on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 10:00 am at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., 528 W Orange Street (corner of Orange & Pine Sts) Lancaster, PA, with Rev. Richard Foster officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives the evening before, Monday, August 30th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of the Service at The Groffs. Interment will be in Bird In Hand Methodist Cemetery.
