Alexander P. Wirth

Alexander Paul Wirth, 36, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, following a courageous three-year battle with Castleman’s disease and lymphoma. He was born in Lancaster to Randy M. Wirth (Kathy) and Carol Byers Engroff. Alex graduated from Manheim Township High School in 2007, where he was actively involved in theatrical productions and was selected as a speaker for both his commencement and baccalaureate ceremonies. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from East Stroudsburg University in 2011. Continuing his academic journey, Alex received a master’s degree in religion and philosophy from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 2014. As a youth, Alex loved his time in the Boy Scouts, where he climbed the highest mountain at Philmont Scout Ranch and formed lifelong friendships. He was also deeply connected to the local craft brewing community, where he enjoyed spending time with friends and regularly dominating trivia nights. By far, Alex’s greatest passion was theatre. He held season tickets at the Fulton Theatre, frequently attended productions at the Ephrata Playhouse, and would occasionally travel to Broadway to catch a few shows. Friends described Alex as brilliant, kind-hearted, and delightfully goofy, with a larger-than-life personality and a laugh and sense of humor unlike any other. The family is deeply grateful to the doctors and staff at Lancaster General Hospital, whose care left a lasting impact on Alex, especially the nurses who supported him through his many long hospital stays. In addition to his parents, Alex is survived by his brothers, Austin (Lauren) Wirth, Jeremy (Christine) Gingrich, and Brett (Yvonne) Engroff; his sisters, Jill Gingrich and Amanda (Scott) Harella; and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Greg Engroff, who passed away just a few months ago. A Celebration of Life will be held at Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17603, on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alex’s name may be made to the Fulton Theatre, 12 N. Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
