Aaron Spicher

Aaron Spicher, 65, of Lancaster, entered into rest on Saturday, June 11, 2016, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 31, 1950 in Spangler, PA, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Grace Hedley Spicher. Aaron was raised in Harrisburg, PA, with his parents and sister and attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg in 1963. He earned an Associate Degree in History from Harrisburg Area Community College and a Bachelor of Humanities Degree in Philosophy from The Pennsylvania State University in Harrisburg in 1973. A former resident of Harrisburg and Downingtown, PA, Aaron moved to the Lancaster area almost 30 years ago for his work in banking and retail. Aaron began attending St. John’s Episcopal Church of Lancaster in 1987 after having worshiped at St. James Episcopal Church in Downingtown and for more than 20 years, at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Harrisburg. As a member at St. John’s, Aaron participated in chancel choir, alter guild, numerous St. John’s Jubilee Ministry programs, and Vestry. He served as a delegate, alternate and volunteer at the Diocesan Convention. In 2004, Aaron was hired as Verger at St. John’s, with his primary responsibility being the set-up and orchestration of all worship services. Aaron liked to say that an enjoyable part of working at St. John’s was that, “St. John’s is a very thin space between earth and heaven.” His parish family will miss him greatly. Aaron was a member of the “Music For Everyone Community Chorus” and enjoyed singing at its many concerts. His interests also included studying the Civil War, Lancaster history, and reading novels by Charlotte Harris. Aaron is survived by his sister, Jane Spicher Kochanov, and her husband, William Kochanov of Harrisburg, his niece, Natalie Kochanov and his nephew, Alexander Kochanov. There will be a celebration of his life at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 321 West Chestnut St Mulberry Sts., Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 12:00 pm with the Rev. John Morris officiating. Interment will be held at Burnside Cemetery, Burnside, PA. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent in Aaron’s memory to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 321 W. Chestnut St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
